Grand Regional Journal welcomes pitches that help readers understand regional character through specific, well-framed subjects. We are interested in clear explanations and fresh connections, not sweeping claims about what an entire region is like.
What to propose
Pitches may explore landscapes, buildings, language, foodways, or traditions, with a focus narrow enough to explain well. A strong proposal names the central question, the region or example involved, why it matters to a general reader, and what the piece will help that reader notice or understand.
A useful pitch
Tell us the proposed angle, the main points you would cover, and any relevant experience or material you can bring to the subject. Flag uncertainty, disagreement, or variation where it matters. Avoid treating a local example as representative of every community, or relying on unsupported origin stories.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A pitch is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication. Please do not submit material that depends on confidential information or claims that cannot be responsibly supported.
Place is made of more than a boundary
A region is not a fixed list of traits. Its character emerges through landscapes, histories, daily habits, and connections that often cross the lines on a map.
